To become an expert on the social significance of GPS and similar methods for tracking human movement, I am going to spend this quarter posting weekly blogs about that topic including references to new discoveries, inventions, and happenings and my thoughts about them.

Updates in the world of LBS
Ironically, I am in my a similar required writing course again this quarter with the same professor as last year. Somehow, this parallel in class structure has caused me to revisit my desire to understand the rhetoric behind Location Based Services and why they are so popular. I have decided to make that my topic again this quarter, however this time focusing on the qualities which make an application successful instead of the privacy concerns involved. Like it or not, LBS are becoming an integral part of society as people find more and more ways to utilize their benefits. Applications that used to deal with socialization through the computer are moving into our 3D lives to capture WHERE our interactions happen. I am curious as to the benefits that users see in that, and what conversation they have about that issue. On that note, as I do research and start writing my paper on this subject, I will try to keep you (the millions and millions of people who I am sure read this...right?) informed of my progress and questions. It's nice to be back. =]
